Kathryen + Brendan

Kathryen Brendan The kiss Park Crest Event FacilityAfter what seems like months of planning and years of building, Park Crest Event Facility is proud to announce that The Carriage House is finally open! All of our blood, sweat, and tears were justified as soon as we saw Kathryen and Brendan on their wedding day. We are ecstatic to attribute the honor of being the first Carriage House newlyweds to this happy couple.

It’s hard to believe that it was over one year ago when Kathryen and Brendan visited Park Crest and chose our newest indoor facility as their venue.  The Carriage House was not yet complete, and their future wedding venue was merely artist renderings and massive crystal chandeliers. They put full faith into our vision and for that we are thankful and proud to work with such a deserving couple.

Kathryen Brendan Cheers Park Crest Event FacilityTheir wedding day was a dream- from the beautiful weather, to the support of both families, and the contagious love shared between the couple. It warms our hearts when we have the opportunity to work with families as involved as theirs. Kathryen’s parents were by her side the entire process, and Brendan’s family traveled all the way from South Africa to share the couple’s special day.

The couple’s ceremony took place on the top floor of The Carriage House with the reception following on the bottom level. The heartfelt ceremony was filled with happy tears, while the reception was a joyous celebration of love, complete with a little friendly competition of a soccer, or rather, a futbol game. The couple’s departure was commemorated with sparklers and a vintage black car.

Kathryen Brendan DepartureWe could not have asked for a better couple or team of vendors for the first wedding held in The Carriage House. Photographs of this special day can be seen here and the names of the vendors that made it possible!

Incorporating Social Media into your Wedding

Social media has become such a large aspect of our everyday lives, and it has now slowly made its way in the wedding industry. Listed below are ways to incorporate technology and social media into your big day!

  1. Wedding Website

Creating a website for your wedding is a great way to keep everyone in the loop. You can share photos of the wedding party, share your registries, and even allow guests to RSVP. The capabilities are endless, and many custom wedding websites are free! EWedding is one of our favorite custom wedding websites.

  1. Live Stream Your Ceremony

Do you have family member across the globe that cannot make it in person? No problem; sites such as UStream can help you share your special day with your loved ones. Speak with your videographer on how to provide a live feed of the ceremony via Ustream, or another online video service.

  1. Create a Wedding Hashtag

Creating a wedding hashtag is a great way to keep track of all the photos taken at your wedding, and encourage guests to take pictures and share their memories. If you’re looking for a creative hashtag that includes both you and your fiancé, check out this hashtag generator.

  1. Create a Snapchat Geofilter

Customized snapchat geofilters are the newest social media craze for weddings. Snapchat is allowing customers (for a price) to create their own filter. It will temporarily appear within a specific physical location on the app on your wedding day. Below is two links that will help you get started!

Tips for Spring and Summer Weddings

Spring is under way, and summer is just around the corner. Here at Park Crest, some of our favorite ceremonies and receptions happen in The Gardens. Whether you are having your spring or summer wedding here at Park Crest or elsewhere, we have a few tips to keep you cool, calm, and collected during your big day.

  1. An inclement weather plan- As they say, April showers bring May flowers. Every couple should be watching the weather and communicating with their venue manager or wedding planner about a backup plan. Here at Park Crest we have several options, whether it’s a tent that covers The Gardens, or relocating the wedding into The Carriage House (only a few yards away from The Gardens).

  2. Bug Spray- Nothing is more bothersome than being bitten by bugs while trying to celebrate. Here at Park Crest, we spray for mosquitoes and ants before your big day. However, it’s always a good idea to have bug spray in the bathrooms for your guests.
  3. Provide cooling devices- Some of our favorite party favors have included beautiful Japanese folding fans and paddle fans. It’s a cute and useful gift the guests will love. You can even personalize the fans. Wedding Paddle Fans
  4. Provide Sunscreen- Make sure you and your significant other lather yourselves with sunscreen before being outdoors. Nothing is worse than being sun burnt before your honeymoon. Guest will also appreciate sunscreen in the bathrooms.
  5. Make sure there is a place with shade- If guests include the elderly or babies, it is a good idea to have a place of refugee from the sun. Here at Park Crest, we have the pavilion with several fans, tables, and chairs.

  6. Provide plenty of cold water along with those summer cocktails- Nothing dehydrates the body more than drinking alcohol in the sun. Provide the guest with stations of cold water that are easily accessible.
  7. Serve lighter food choices- During the hot summer days and nights, people tend to lean towards lighter food choices. No one wants chili on a hot summer night. Talk to the caterer about a summer menu incorporating  seasonal fruits, vegetables and grilled meats.
